Fundamental  Arts  Portfolio  Requirements


Are you ready to start on a new artistic journey? Your portfolio is your showcase. Follow these requirements and show us what you can create! Your portfolio will be a significant factor in gaining admission to the program

 

Creating your portfolio


Your submission should include 6 pieces of the best artwork in your portfolio and an essay or video.

This is a digital submission of your work. You can create a multiple-page PDF, or alternatively, use free online resources such as wix.com, carbonmade.com, or portfolio.adobe.com can serve as the home for your portfolio images and descriptions. 

Do not send hard copies of your portfolio.

 

Portfolio Score Breakdown


Your portfolio will be scored out of 100 points. You must score at least 60 points to be accepted into the Fundamental Arts program.

 

Original Work

Value: 20 points
Your original work could include, but is not limited to:
- figure drawings
- perspective drawings
- drawings from observation
- original character design
- traditional art, painting, or sculpture
- mixed media
- digital art

Shading (hand-draw, or digital)         

Value: 10 points
Try to convey details of shape and form through a range of contrast levels and expressive shading.

Colour (hand-drawn, paint, or digital)

Value: 20 points
Think about creating mood through colour. Looking to see evidence of colour theory and its application.

Line (hand-drawn, paint, or digital)

Value: 20 points
Show us evidence of expressive line work to suggest a range of detail, depth, and form.

Essay or Video

Value: 10 points
You may either write a 400- to 500-word statement or record a video describing your artistic journey. Please include what you would like to gain from this program, and what are your goals for the future once you graduate. (Include any other information about yourself relevant to the program such as volunteer experience, awards, and distinctions).

Please format the written essay for 8.5” x 11” paper. Videos should be uploaded to a website such as Youtube and then send us the video link.

You will be rated on how well you followed the portfolio requirements

Presentation

Value: 10 points
Your portfolio will be rated based on the presentation of your work. To achieve the highest mark, your portfolio should be well organized and easy to access. Take clear, well-lit images or scans of your artwork to create a digital portfolio. Make sure that you include descriptions of each piece. You can send a multiple-page PDF, or alternatively, free online resources such as wix.com, carbonmade.com, or portfolio.adobe.com can serve as the home for your portfolio images and descriptions.

Do not send hard copies of your portfolio.

 

Submitting your portfolio


Please send your completed portfolio to the Admissions department by email: info@hollandcollege.com. Use “Fundamental Arts Portfolio” as your subject line.
