Job Description
Belfast Area Watershed Group (BAWG) seeks a passionate and creative communications summer Intern to support our communications efforts. This role will focus on storytelling, video development, social media engagement, surveys, press releases and newspaper submissions, and other outreach initiatives to highlight the importance of watershed conservation. The intern will work closely with our team to create compelling narratives that showcase our projects, community efforts, and environmental impact.
Responsibilities:
- Develop engaging written and visual content for social media, newsletters, blogs, and print materials.
- Film and edit short videos to document watershed projects and community stories.
- Conduct interviews with volunteers, landowners, and conservation experts.
- Assist in managing social media platforms, tracking engagement, and growing audience reach.
- Participate in storytelling projects that highlight environmental stewardship.
- Traverse forest and stream locations in various weather conditions to capture field content.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure consistency in messaging and branding.
- Assist with report writing as needed
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a program in journalism, communications, environmental studies, or a related field.
- Strong writing, storytelling, and video production skills.
- Experience with social media platforms, photography, and basic graphic design.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in both office and field settings.
- Willingness to traverse forested and stream locations in all weather conditions.
- Passion for environmental conservation and community engagement.
- Ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Must be comfortable working in forests, coastal areas, water, and general summer conditions
- Participation in field activities, such as beach clean-ups and events, is important.

Terms of Employment:
- This is a temporary summer internship position, and you must be returning to post-secondary education
- Fieldwork will involve physical activity, including hiking and working in outdoor environments.
- Some work may be remote, but in-person attendance for fieldwork and events is required.
- Flexible schedule, with occasional weekend or evening assignments based on project needs.
- Equipment supplied – camera, GoPro, drone (must have a license), waders
- Transportation required to office (Belfast) (mileage paid between field and event sites from office)
