Holland »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵhonours fourth president Alex MacAulay

Holland »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵand the Holland »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵFoundation have named the outdoor amphitheatre located on the Prince of Wales Campus in honour of the college’s fourth president, Alex MacAulay.

Mr. MacAulay was president of the college from 1995 to 2005, taking over from Chris Bryant. The naming of MacAulay Court celebrates his contributions to the college and the community, said the college’s current president, Dr. Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald.

“Alex provided strong leadership and direction in all aspects of the college’s growth during his tenure. He arrived at a pivotal time in the college’s development. It was a time that called for renewal – renewal of buildings, renewal of equipment, even of curriculum.  It was important to us to acknowledge his contributions in a meaningful way.”

Mike O’Brien, Chair of the Holland »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵBoard of Governors and a friend of Mr. MacAulay’s, said Mr. MacAulay was known and respected for his direct and effective management style.

“Alex had the ability to look at a problem from all perspectives and never hesitated to ask for the opinions of others, even those who disagreed with him.  He trusted people and challenged them to deliver results, and as a result, people trusted and were loyal to him.”

Although Mr. MacAulay was unable to attend the naming ceremony, his wife, Clare-Anne, said that Alex and the entire MacAulay family were humbled and touched by the recognition.

“We know how much Holland »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵmeans to Alex. We are tremendously grateful for this lasting tribute in his honour.” she said.

The newly named MacAulay Court is a popular gathering space which will continue to be used extensively during the school year. In addition to various programs using the space for teaching activities, it is a place where students, staff and others connect, and a perfect venue for outdoor events.
