Graphic Design student wins regional design award

Holland College Graphic Design student Sam Hughes took home the coveted Best in Region Award at the in Toronto recently. The Canadian Regional Design Awards also known as the Redgees, highlight and acknowledge excellent design work across Canada. Hughes won the student category in Atlantic Canada, and then went on to face off against design professionals from P.E.I., N.B., N.S., and Newfoundland to win the award.

His winning design was a school project he worked on with friend and second year Photography and Digital Imaging student Patrick Berigan. Graphic Design instructor April Condon said the projects enable the student to hone their skills.

“Every year, the photography and graphic design students work together on an assignment that combines their skills and talents. It is a great way for students to make connections that could potentially last their careers. The combination of Sam’s contemporary style and Patrick’s editorial photography skills made their collaboration a success,” she said.
