»¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵrecognizes leadership giving

Holland »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵhosted a recognition event today at its Prince of Wales Campus for a group of businesses, individuals, and organizations who contributed leadership gifts to Learning. For Life., the most successful campaign ever held in the College’s history. The event included the unveiling of several named spaces and tribute plaques, and officially recognized a number of named scholarships, bursaries, and awards funded through campaign leadership gifts.

The family of David and Doris Scales was celebrated for their generosity through the naming of David and Doris Scales Commons at the Centre for Community Engagement. Family member John Scales noted that their family gift was made with pride.

“We are pleased to support Holland »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵand the advancement of its students through the redevelopment of the Prince of Wales Campus,” said Scales.

Bruce Howatt, PEI vice-president for Bell Aliant, commented that gifts made to Holland »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵhave impact that extends well beyond the walls of the institution.

“Bell Aliant is proud to partner with Holland »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵand supports the delivery of innovative programs that foster student development and help create vibrant, connected communities,” said Howatt.

A tribute plaque was unveiled to recognize Bell Aliant at the Centre for Applied Science and Technology.

Approximately forty additional donors were recognized and celebrated for their generous investments in Holland College.

“It’s both inspiring and motivating to have the community come together and pledge their support for our College,” said Holland »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵPresident Brian McMillan. “Having the opportunity to now turn our attention to the recognition and celebration of our leadership donors is a welcomed privilege. There are many ways to say ‘thank you’ and we hope that our gratitude has been expressed as wholeheartedly as it has been felt.”

The Learning. For Life. Capital Campaign raised $6.6 million dollars from the private and business sectors, augmenting the investments made by both the federal and provincial governments. The funds were directed toward the construction of two new buildings, an expansion to the student residence on the Prince of Wales Campus, renovations to the Charlottetown Centre, expansions and renovations in the Georgetown and the Marine Training Centres, and construction of the West Prince and Waterfront Campuses.

In addition to capital and infrastructure projects, funds have also been directed toward student financial aid, extra-curricular activities and student support services, equipment and teaching technologies for classrooms, and innovation that enables students, staff, and faculty to bring ideas to reality.
