Green Machine teams up with partners for Earth Day

The newly-formed Holland »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵGreen Machine, a group of students, staff and community members promoting sustainable practices, has teamed up with the Atlantic Canada Electronic Stewardship (ACES), the Atlantic Superstore, and Bluefield Natural Products for an Earth Day Electronics Roundup and Solar Barbecue demonstration slated for Friday, April 20.

“If you are like most of us, you likely have a collection of used batteries and old electronics that you don’t know what to do with,” said Joan Diamond, leader of Green Machine. “On April 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., an ACES drop off box will be located at Holland College’s Prince of Wales Centre. ACES is waiving the drop off fees for the event. We encourage everyone who’s doing some spring cleaning and would like to get rid of old electronics to bring them on that day.”

Diamond explained that the event is taking place the day before the official Earth Day, which is Saturday, April 21, so that students are able to participate.

At noon, students in the new Energy Systems Engineering program will be demonstrating the efficiency of the solar barbecues they built as a class project. Food and beverages were provided by the Atlantic Superstore and Bluefield Natural Products.
