Holland College's summer boot camp program will include an animation boot camp for children and a photography boot camp for adults, along with the popular culinary boot camps that were held last year and a new culinary offering.

The one-week  gives children aged 11 to 15 years old an introduction to the world of animation. The camp starts with an introduction to 2-D animation in some of the different forms displayed today. Participants learn about the process of creating animations through storyboards, character designs, flash animations and basic stop motion using industry computer technology. It's a busy, hands-on week of animation, and by the end, participants will have developed their own animation clip to show off their new animation skills. The animation camp will run from August 9 to 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will cost $219 per person.

The one-day photography boot camps are for those already comfortable with working with their camera. Participants will spend a day traveling along the Central Coastal Drive to the North Shore of the Island with plenty of photo stops along the way. The day of learning and touring will help expand the participants' creative vision their knowledge of the many facets of landscape photography. The day camp will be offered June 28; July 5, 12, 19, 26; and August 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. The cost of the camp is $159 per person, plus GST.

This year, the successful culinary boot camps held at Holland College's Culinary Institute of Canada will again provide unique, customized experiences that allow participants to work in the CIC's state-of-the-art kitchens alongside experienced chefs, learning the intricacies of preparing fabulous culinary creations as well as essential kitchen fundamentals and cooking tips. Culinary boot camps include Seafood 101, Chocolate and Wine, Thrills on the Grill, Kids "R" Kookin', a new Mediterranean Flavours boot camp, and customized group and corporate experiences can also be arranged.

Marsha Doiron, Manager of Ancillary Services at Holland College, sees the new culinary boot camps as a great fit with the provincial Department of Tourism's initiatives.

"We are very excited with the growth of our culinary boot camp program," she said, "it coincides with the culinary focus that Tourism PEI is taking this year. We anticipate that we will be adding to our boot camp offerings over the next few years."
