Holland »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵtoday announced that a one-time Practical Nursing program will be offered in the West Prince area from January 2005 until April 2006. The »¢Ñ¨ÊÓƵhas become widely known for innovative approaches to training, community development and for the early adoption of individualized, self-directed, competency-based education.
Holland College, with the support of local business, has worked closely with the West Prince Educational Task Force, to address the local labour market challenge, the need for licensed practical nurses.
Dean Getson is the Coordinator for Community-based Training on behalf of the West Prince Educational Task Force. "It is with great enthusiasm and anticipation that we welcome Holland College's Practical Nursing Program to West Prince. Many, many people have expressed an interest over the past year in this type of training. It is to their credit, along with the unending support from the West Prince Health Authority and the Education Task Force committee, that this type of announcement can be made. Labour market trends point to a strong need for practical nursing positions."
"Based on the success of the West Prince Carpentry and Career Enhancement program, we are delighted to be offering another community-based training initiative, stated Dr. Brian McMillan, Vice President of Programs at Holland College.
The 14-month Practical Nursing program is designed to prepare learners to assist health professionals in meeting the health care needs of individuals and families. Upon completion of the program and under the direction of a registered nurse or duly qualified medical practitioner, the graduate will be able to utilize a basic knowledge of biological, social and physical sciences to provide quality nursing care for clients in a variety of settings.
