Pistol Instructor

  • Agency selects course/training required; should attending members meet prerequisites
  • Agency will download the QF135 Course Registration Form by clicking on the register now tab
  • Download the enrollment form and save as the following: Name of agency, name of applicant, name of course and date
  • Agency completes the Course Registration Form (with as much information as possible) and email a completed copy to the APA In-Service Mail Box found at apainservicetraining@hollandcollege.com
  • Email and attach the completed form using the same name of agency, name of applicant, name of course and date as the subject line. This will allow for quick and streamlined processing of the application
  • Agency will be provided with a follow-up email advising of the result of their attendance
  • Should a member be selected for training, the member will be provided with joining instructions to assist with their enrollment

Course Description

Candidates will be provided with the knowledge and skills necessary to proficiently organize and competently conduct Pistol training qualifications, as well as provide instruction that will assist other officers with their weapon manipulation and safe handling skills. Students will learn policies and procedures regarding the safe and effective operation of a range, including range briefings. The candidate will also be instructed on levels of training, instructional techniques, lesson plan development, course of fire design, as well as, coaching, scoring and correcting shooting errors.

Course Prerequisites

  • Current sworn member in good standing of a law enforcement/public safety agency 
  • Be supported by immediate supervisor and or chief of service 
  • Fulfilled all use of force requirements set out by area Police Service Act 

Note: Agencies are required to bring their own service weapon and ammunition, anticipating firing in excess of 1,000 pistol rounds.  Agencies unable to provide their own ammunition may purchase it from the academy.
