The five (5) day course provides training to police officers on the theory of breath testing and the operation of the Intox EC/IR II for the purposes of obtaining their designation as a Qualified Technician (QT) pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada. The training is appropriate for QTs who meet the candidate selection criteria and designated QTs who are non-current in the operation of an approved evidentiary instrument.
• Peace Officers who have regular involvement in the enforcement of impaired driving offences. NOTE: Regular involvement in the enforcement of impaired driving offences is generally defined as the investigation of one or more offences of impaired driving per month.
• Peace Officers who have an interest in and an aptitude for technical aspects of law enforcement. NOTE: An aptitude for the technical aspects of law enforcement is defined as a Peace Officer who has a demonstrated inherent ability to learn technical material sufficiently so that he/she can properly perform tasks required on the job.
• Peace Officers who have an ability to be an effective witness. NOTE: The ability to be an effective witness is defined as a Peace Officer who can withstand the scrutiny of extensive cross-examination while maintaining professional composure and accuracy.
